William Menkins

April 24, 1928 — November 15, 2021

William J. "Johnny" Menkins, Sr., 93, of Phoenixville, PA husband of Marian E. (Rittenbaugh) Menkins of 70 years passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 15, 2021 at home.

Born in West Chester, PA on April 24, 1928.  He was the son of the late David and Frances (Sassman) Menkins of Malvern, PA.

Johnny attended Kathryn D. Markley Elementary School in Malvern, PA and attended Berwyn High School, Berwyn, PA.

During his high school years (1940's) he was a golf caddy at the Malvern Golf Course and also worked on the Roger Cooper's Farm.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  During that time he met his future wife Marian and they married on December 1, 1951.  He continued his work career as a Finished Carpenter with Melvin C. Long Builders, Daylesford, PA and Bill Peters, Builder, Phoenixville, PA.  He also worked at the Phoenixville Iron Company.  Later he worked for Warner Lime Company, Devault, PA.  He was a Maintenance Welder and Finish Carpenter.  He retired from there after 35 years.

After retirement he found the perfect second home at Meadowbrook Golf Course, Phoenixville, PA.  His love for golfing and socializing with all his golfing buddies filled a lot of his spare time.  He also enjoyed refinishing furniture and restoring items for his annual yard sale.  All proceeds went to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.  He would sponsor a child every year.

He loved to go grocery shopping with his great grandchildren.  He enjoyed taking day trips.  He went 2-3 times a year with his brothers and family on a bus trip to the Casino.  He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan.

His greatest joy was walking outside his home and feeding his Freddy the Fox, Herman the Groundhog and his many bird friends.  His one favorite was his beautiful Eagle.  He truly loved life.

He is survived by five children:
Belinda wife of the late David Lindsay of Phoenixville;
Sheila Menkins of Maryland;
William Menkins, Jr. of Douglassville;
Gary Menkins, husband of Linda of Maryland;
Michael Menkins, husband of Mary of Glenmoore.

He also has 8 Grandchildren, Heather, John, W. John III, Jason, Amanda, David, Daniel, and Ryan and 15 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Johnny was preceeded in death by his granddaughter, Kristen Lindsay, 5 brothers and one sister.  Surviving is one sister, Marie Jurata of Malvern and one brother, Richard Menkins of Phoenixville.

He loved his wife and five children and was a "Special" Pop and Pop Pop to all.

He will be sadly missed!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in Devlin Rosmos Kepp and Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Joseph Dietz officiating.

Burial will follow in Morris Cemetery.

A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
