Sharon (Volk) Lyng

Born in Buffalo, NY on September 5, 1943, Sharon Lyng passed away on the evening of January 10, 2023 after a long and busy life.

Sharon attended school in Angola, NY where her family lived along the beaches of Lake Erie. She began a career as an elevator operator in the Blue Cross building in Downtown Buffalo wearing one white glove to manually open and close the heavy gate. When asked about the job, she liked to joke, “It had it ups and downs.” It was in that elevator that she had a chance to see her future husband traveling to and from his office every day.  Sharon married in 1962 and made a home in Orchard Park, NY.

Sharon, her husband “Teddy” and their four children were transplants to the Phoenixville area in 1978 where she quickly established many friendships and became a vital part of the community.

She and her husband owned the Kimberton Arts Building in Kimberton, PA for over 30 years where Sharon enjoyed catering parties and being a part of special events for families in the community. Sharon enjoyed travel and as her husband often said, “She doesn’t care where she is going, as longs as she goes.” Sharon spent countless hours with her grandchildren, taking them on trips, babysitting and sharing in the excitement of their school activities, sports and special events.

Several years ago, Sharon moved to a senior community in Fort Washington, PA where she was known for her delicious baked goods, hilarious stories, strong opinions and her critiquing of the dining room cuisine. To her last day, Sharon’s friends described her as fun and funny. She made everyone laugh and loved to talk to people, friends, family and strangers alike.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50+ years, Edward Lyng, and her brother and sister-in-law Edward and Ellie Volk of Angola NY.  She is survived by her sister Deaune Volk of Doylestown, PA, her children Maureen Hoffman (Gene) of Audubon, PA, Carolyn Lyng of Encino, NM, David Lyng of Pottstown, PA and John Lyng (Tara) of Phoenixville, PA, beloved grandchildren Olivia Roberts (Benjamin) of Bridgeport, PA, Christopher Kunc and his fiancée Julie of Schwenksville, PA, Audrey Lyng of Phoenixville, PA, nieces, nephews and many friends. Sharon’s most recent joy was the birth of her first great-grandchild, Lyric Maribella.
