Sandra J. Butts

Sandra (Sandy) Joanne Butts of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2024, at 85 years of age. She was preceded in her journey to Heaven by her husband of 55 years, Albert (Buddy) Butts.

Sandy was born on October 27, 1939, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and raised in the nearby town of Parkesburg. She was the daughter of the late Alford and Dorothy (Miller) Whitney.

Sandy married Al (Buddy) Butts on June 7, 1958, embarking on a roller coaster of a life journey.

Through it all – the many moves, the hardships, the adventures, the excitement – Sandy worked hard to maintain a stable and warm home life for her family of 11 children and her husband.

Sandy’s role as a mother was of utmost importance to her. She read to her children, mended and sometimes made clothes for them, cooked endless meals for her family and often extras and baked thousands of cookies and cakes over the years.

Sandy was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved making holidays special for her family. In her post-childrearing days, she began to write faith-based stories that she shared at Christmastime with family and friends, along with nut breads everyone looked forward to.

Sandy remembered the birthdays of all her children and the generations of grandchildren with cards and usually some cash. She commemorated her children’s anniversaries with touching cards. She sent cards for Easter and Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving and sometimes other holidays.

Above all, Sandy prayed for her children and grandchildren every day.

The Bible was Sandy’s favorite thing to read, though her reading extended to Christian fiction and prophecy, as well. Sandy's one wish in life would be that all would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. She would love to see all of her loved ones and friends in heaven with her and Al.

Sandy is survived by her 11 children and some of their spouses: Tammy (wife of the late Dwight Drennan), Steve, Terri, (wife of the late Larry Muhlenberg), Jeff (Katrina), Rob, Chris (Nicole), Heather (Jayson Borawski), Pati (wife of the late Don Werkheiser), Matt (Beth), Dave, and Alex (Sandra).

She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Whitney.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service December 8, 2024 from 2-4 PM at Hope Community Church 2732 N Charlotte Street, Gilbertsville PA 19525.
