Phyllis Tyler

Phyllis Tyler, 65, of Phoenixville PA, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, in her home. Phyllis was born in 1951 in Ithaca, NY, to Fran and Bart Dulac. She attended Niskayuna High School and upon graduation, studied at Cornel University and SUNY Oswego where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work with a focus on Early Childhood Education. She worked as a Social Worker for Schenectady County, NY. Phyllis met Kenneth while in college, and they married in 1975. They moved to Rochester, NY and had their eldest son, Nathan. In 1985, Phyllis and Ken relocated to Phoenixville, PA, where they raised Nathan, daughter Erica, granddaughter Callie, and cared for 10 foster children.
For over 25 years, Phyllis worked as a preschool teacher at the Wooden Shoe Nursery School and Phoenixville YMCA. She had a love for educating her "little friends." Phyllis played an active role in the Lydia Circle, Prayer Shawl Ministry, and Women's Bible Study at the First United Methodist Church in Phoenixville. Phyllis volunteered as a work crew leader, repairing homes of people in need with Good Works of Chester County.
Phyllis and Ken enjoyed many years together traveling, vacationing at the beach, and going on spontaneous flea market adventures. Phyllis enjoyed arts and crafts, especially play dates with her beloved friend, Betsy. Phyllis cherished her role as a grandma and enjoyed trips to the zoo and reading books with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; sister Gale Barnes, of Booneville, AR; son Nathan, wife Lucy of Collegeville, PA; daughter Erica; and four grandchildren Josie, Callie, Fiona, and Logan; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the First United Methodist Church of Phoenixville on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:30 pm. The family will greet Relatives and Friends in the church from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in honor of Phyllis to Good Works, Inc. P.O. Box 1441 Coatesville, PA 19320.
