Paul W. McGloin

Paul Wilson McGloin, 77, husband of Bev McGloin of Phoenixville, PA died on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Paoli Hospital.

He was born on April 6, 1947 to the late Thomas and Virginia (Wilson) McGloin and grew up in West Hempstead, New York.

He attended St. John’s Prep High School on a basketball scholarship. Paul entered postsecondary education attending Drexel University where he played quarterback on the football team.

Paul began his career as a staff auditor in 1970 and worked his way to Audit Supervisor prior to entering the banking industry.

He served in the banking industry from 1975 to 2011. Paul worked as a division president, vice president, executive vice president and president of several banks. Prior to retirement, Paul was employed as the managing director of First Union National Bank in Philadelphia and finished his career at National Penn Bank. After retirement, he sat on the board at the Almo Corporation.

Paul was elected to the Board of Trustees at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991, where he served for 23 years and was named Trustee Emeritus. He assumed the chairmanship in July 2004 and continued in this position until his retirement from the board in 2014. Paul was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the institution.

While his professional accomplishments were vast, Paul was most proud of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Paul spent every summer with his family in Avalon, NJ working on his savage tan in his recliner beach chair. He also enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends at Rivercrest Country Club. His off color sense of humor livened up every conversation, dinner and event.

Paul was an ardent supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events, never missing a football, baseball, or lacrosse game. He even could be found on the gymnastics floor, field hockey field, at the pool, or in the cheerleading stands.

Paul had knack for making everyone believe they were a part of the McGloin family, even if they were not related to him. He was looked up to as a role model and father figure to many family members and friends of his sons growing up. Paul was a respected and generous man.

Paul’s parting words to his friends and family were found on a note on his desk, “In case of death-Have a good time.“

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Bev, he is survived by sons: Christopher, husband of Suzanne McGloin and Sean, husband of Alexis McGloin; daughter-in-law, Laureen, wife of Scott Stohrer; his grandchildren: Payton, Madison, Quinn, Lauren, Carson, and Catherine; brother, Peter, husband of Jennifer McGloin, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matt McGloin, sister, Rosemary Nappi, and brother Thomas McGloin.
