Michael J. "Shoal" Sheel, 47, of Hammonton, New Jersey, formerly of Medford Lakes and Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Died suddenly on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 after suffering a massive heart attack at his residence.
Born on January 30, 1971 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, Michael was the son of the late Edward and Janice (Lebisky) Sheel.
Michael was a graduate of Shawnee High School, Medford, NJ class of 1990 and attended the Academy of Culinary Arts in Mays Landing, NJ graduating in 1992.
Michael was a Sous Chef at Black Eyed Susan's in Harvey Cedars, NJ from 2012 until the time of his death. He also previously held several Chef positions in Lauderdale By the Sea, Florida at 101 Ocean from 2007 to 2010, South Jersey. New York, St. Thomas, Santa Cruz, CA, Charleston, SC, Atlanta, GA and in the Philadelphia area at the Continental in Old City, Philadelphia.
Michael enjoyed his newly found interest in woodworking, working on and riding vintage bicycles, traveling, cooking, mentoring culinary students, thrift shopping, and loved the beach, especially Long Beach Island, NJ, and anything "monkey;" he collected monkey art and sock puppets.
Michael is survived by his sister, Kelly Sheel of Clermont, FL, and his brother William "Bill" Sheel and his wife Kathy of Hammonton, NJ.
A reception of family and friends will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 aboard the "Miss Barnegat Light", 18th Street and Bayview Avenue (Barnegat Light Yacht Basin), Barnegat Light, NJ 08006 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
