Mary Moulton

July 15, 1924 — May 12, 2019

Mary Jane Moulton, 94, passed away on Sunday May 12, 2019. Mary Jane was fortunate to be known as mother, Grammie (Grandmother), and Mame (Great-Grandmother). In these roles she is remembered as being supportive, involved and always available to her family and friends. She received her BS in Biology from Ursinus College which she used as a stepping stone to teaching in her twenties. She transitioned later in life to her passion of caring for the elderly by working as a bus driver for the elderly and then a social worker for the Chester County of Aging. Mary Jane was a matriarch, keeping the extended family intact with frequent holiday parties. She was a strong woman and the perfect role model. An activist, Mary Jane could often be found outside of Phoenixville Hospital supporting a woman’s right to her own body and Pro-Choice views. She was often found in Phoenixville on Friday nights peacefully protesting the war, as well as volunteering her time with Meals on Wheels and Planned Parenthood. Mary Jane showed her gratitude and attention to nature through birdwatching, walking the trails at The Freedoms Foundation and Valley Forge National Park, picking up litter at every opportunity as well as embracing and instilling a paced, meaningful way of life to all she met. A perennial supporter of WHYY and NPR, Mary Jane could often be found giving away the gifts she received as a supporter of both. When not with her family she enjoyed meeting her friends for lunch bunch, breakfast buddies and Ursinus Alumni luncheons. Mary Jane was a devoted Quaker and a constant at the Schuylkill Friends Meeting House for over 50 years. She was an elder in the Meeting, as well as a long standing member of the Care & Oversight Committee, and a mentor to many. Her memory, insight and valuable advice will be missed by many community members, and her family for many years to come. Per Mary Jane's request, there will be no services to memorialize her. In lieu of flowers, she would have wanted you to donate to Schuylkill Friends Meeting or Planned Parenthood.
