Leonard W. "Pinky" White

Leonard “Pinky” White was born October 20, 1947, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Emlin Ernest White, Sr. and Esther Louise Saunders. Leonard passed away on November 24, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Pottstown, PA.

Leonard graduated from Phoenixville Area High School in 1966. He went on to attend Lincoln University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. He completed his education by earning a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Temple University in 1974. 

Leonard began his career working at a methadone clinic in Philadelphia as a social worker. He enjoyed assisting his community and in his earlier years he helped establish Phoenixville Community Council North (PCCN). He went on to work for several years with Chester County Children and Youth Services. He later worked for the City of Richmond as a supervisor for Children and Youth Services. He retired in 2013 after working at Saint Gabriel’s Hall for fifteen years.

Pinky, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed spending time with his grandson, attending family functions, playing cards, watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies games, reading the newspaper daily, and smoking his cigars. He also loved attending his yearly meetup with his close childhood friends.

Leonard leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia White of thirty-eight years, two sons: William White and Jeffrey White of Pottstown, PA. He is also survived by one grandchild, Jeffrey Parker White of Pottstown, PA; four sisters: Rhoda Wheatley of State College, PA, Beatrice Rechier of State College, PA, Lisa Saunders-Jones of Georgia, and Sylvia Saunders-Jones of South Carolina; a brother, DeNeal Saunders of Phoenixville, PA; an aunt, Yvonne Winston of Phoenixville, PA; an uncle, James Winston of Phoenixville, PA; and a special cousin, Sylvia Foreman of Phoenixville, PA. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his siblings:  Vera White (sister), Evelyn Townsend (sister), Donald White (brother), Emlin White, Jr. (brother), Louise White (sister), Marilyn White (sister), Esther Lowe (sister), Lillian Thomas (sister), Bernice Saunders (sister), and Edna Saunders (sister).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service in the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 Main Street, Phoenixville on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Masks will be required in the funeral home.

Interment will be held privately.

A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Friday from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
