John D. Hughes, 79, husband of Barbara M. (Schell) Hughes, of Upper Providence Township, PA, died on Monday evening, July 10, 2017 in Phoenixville Hospital.
Born on January 20, 1938 in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late James M., Sr., and Laura (Gilbert) Hughes.
John was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, Class of 1955.
He served in the United States Navy as a radio operator.
He worked as a dispatcher at International Mill Service and then was Code Enforcement Officer for Upper Providence Township.
He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and the Schuylkill Canal Association.
He filled the role of father and grandfather to his many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, James, Jr., Terence, William, and Joseph Hughes, sisters, Maryrose Casselberry, Theresa Faddis, and Martha Marmer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Ann Chapel, 604 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA.
A viewing will be held in the Chapel on Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.
