John R. Detweiler, 79, husband of Morgan A. (Ragsdale) Detweiler of Phoenixville, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in Phoenixville Hospital.
Born on April 19, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late James and Betty (Hoffman) Detweiler.
John was a father. John was a good father. John was a great father. He was a man; imperfect, but true to himself and God and his loved ones. He tried, always, and ultimately succeeded. Family was his world. He worked as a Machinist for Philadelphia Gear in King of Prussia and possessed a powerful work ethic that he passed on to his children. He loved his children unconditionally, and his love will be remembered and felt far into the future. He was devoted to his marriage, and partnered with his wife to build a loving home.
John was a city boy, but he was curious and passionate about nature and the world. He loved bird watching, fishing and riding his bike in Valley Forge Park. Rain or shine, he was determined to exercise his body and soul outdoors, even when he had to drag, and sometimes carry, his children forward into the outside. That kept him young, and in good humor. His laughter will be missed almost as much as his presence. It cannot be overstated how much he loved his family, and, it must be said, a warm, hearty meal.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Grace (Barrie) wife of Scott McCrimmon; Brian Detweiler; Celeste wife of Tim Bantle; Jake Detweiler; Natalie Detweiler.7 Grandchildren, Aisha, Dominic, Alieshia, Gavin, Brayden, Tabatha, and Luke.1 Great-grandchild, Mila.
Sister, Jackie Paglia and brother, Barry Detweiler and his significant other Iris Bianchi.
Preceded in death by his sister, Carol Schultz.
Funeral Services will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
