John Bonik, 85, husband of Julia A. (Demeter) Bonik, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in Phoenixville Hospital.
Born on June 21, 1931 in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late Elias and Anna (Procak) Bahryak.
He graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1949 and later joined the United States Army serving a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War. He worked at Phoenix Steel Corporation for his entire career as a welder in Shop 6.
He was an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Phoenixville, where he sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Phoenixville Senior Center and enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting and was the master at solving crossword puzzles. He shared his enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports with his children and grandchildren and loved to watch the Phillies and Eagles games together with his family. Additionally, he bowled in several leagues where in 1998 he and his son, John, each bowled a perfect 300 game.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Julius Niemczuk, Joseph Niemczuk, Walter Niemczuk, Michael Bonik, sisters, Stella Brown, Sophie Peck and Olga Donahue.
Relatives and Friends may attend his Funeral Divine Liturgy in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 301 Fairview Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:30 am. A viewing will be held in the church on Saturday morning from 8:45 am to 10:15 am.
Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA.
He valued his granddaughter's work helping homeless veterans with their legal needs.
