Joanne Elizabeth (Mizak) Karlson, 77, loving wife of the late Thomas E. Karlson, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Phoenixville Hospital. Born on May 6,1943 in Norristown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Stephen Mizak, Sr. and Lucy A. (Scandone) Mizak. Joanne was raised in Norristown where she grew up with many close cousins and relatives. She graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Tom, in 1969. They raised their three children in Spring City, PA. Joanne worked as a special education classroom aide, for Professional Services and at the Spring-Ford Area School District as an Administrative Assistant where she retired from in 2008.
Joanne was a member of First United Church of Christ in Spring City, PA. She enjoyed camping at the beach with her husband and children, going to lunch with the “ladies,” and music by Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli. She religiously kept her countdown to Christmas calendar, sent the perfect card for any occasion, and didn’t go a night without a cup of tea and something sweet. Joanne was a loving wife, mother, sister, Grammy, great-grandmother, and dear friend to all and she will be greatly missed.
Joanne is survived by her three children, son, Kimber J., husband of Theresa Karlson of Royersford; daughter, Erika L. Karlson of Limerick; daughter, Heather R. wife of Stephen Biddle of Unionville; one brother, Robert Mizak of Limerick; four grandchildren, Michelle Karlson, Elizabeth Karlson-Sites, Colton Biddle, Isabella Biddle; and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Alexander Sites. Joanne was also survived by many loving cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Mizak and sister, Elizabeth Mizak.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Limerick Garden of Memories on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 10:00-11:00am at the Chapel. A private, graveside service will follow for family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at www.Heart.org.
