Joanne L. Burnley

Joanne (Mezey) Burnley, age 85 of Spring City, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022. She was the daughter of the late John Michael Mezey and Anna Licisyn Mezey, and widow of Jack Hayden Burnley.

Joanne worked as Controller for her husband’s stair contracting business until his passing and her retirement in 2005.

Joanne was a graduate of Phoenixville Area High School and a dedicated and active member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Spring City. She volunteered for many years at the Southeastern PA Veteran’s Center and received honorable recognition for her service. She also was a life member of the ladies auxiliary in Spring City, Liberty Fire Company, an active member of St. Joseph’s Women’s Group, Phoenixville Senior Center, Spring Ford Historical Society, and partner in hope for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

For 45 years, Joanne traveled with her husband, Jack, to several ports along the Chesapeake Bay. She loved her home and had a passion for entertaining and music. She cherished acts of kindness and was a generous and loyal friend to many. She considered her friends her family. She made friends easily and had a smile that would light up a room.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Eleanor Dittrich of Minnesota and Verna Schmale of Denver, Pennsylvania, as well as her husband, Jack Burnley of Spring City.

She is survived by her sister Mary Call of Sanatoga, son Thomas L. Burnley, Sr. and wife Helen Burnley, granddaughter Aileen Sobel and husband, Josh Sobel, grandson Tj Burnley and wife Ashley Burnley, two great grandsons Henry August and Sonny Parker Sobel, and great granddaughter, Leah Rose Burnley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City, PA on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 11:00 am,

Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

A viewing will be held in church on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 am.
